Mosquito kit 8 is the professional installation kit for electrical contractor installation only. This kit is NOT suitable for DIY installation. Kit 8 contains the Mosquito MK4, security cage, 240VAC programmable inline DIN-rail mounted time switch and a 24VDC 4 Amp Switch Mode Metal Boxed PSU.
When is this kit the best choice
- When there are no people on site to trigger the Mosquito at the required times
- When the problems occur at the same times each day
- When the Mosquito cannot be mounted above 4 meters above ground level
- When the Mosquito is mounted in a publicly accessible location
- When the Mosquito must be ‘hard-wired’ in to a fused spur rather than powering it from a standard power socket.
Who typically uses this kit
This kit is generally used for installations in Stairwells and lobbies in publicly accessible buildings such as carparks etc. where it is not suitable to plug the Mosquito in to a regular power outlet. Hard wiring the Mosquito in to a fused spur ensures the unit cannot be accidentally unplugged.
Features – The Mosquito Sound(s)
Mosquito is generally known for producing a sound that only young people can hear, however, there are actually two different sounds that the Mosquito can produce, each for different applications.
High frequency tone. Often referred to as the ‘Teen’ setting. This setting can be heard by people up to around the age of 25 only. The sound does not penetrate walls, windows, doors etc. It will not affect people older than 25, although it is not a definite cut off point at 25, some people will hear such frequencies slightly longer than others.
Low frequency tone. Also referred to as the ‘All Age’ tone. This setting can be heard by people of all ages. This setting is generally used where problems are caused predominantly by people older than 25. This low frequency tone will penetrate building fabric to a greater degree than the high frequency tone, but not significantly enough to be a problem. This setting should not be used in residential areas.
Power requirements
A 110 / 230 VAC mains feed rated 5AMP+ is required. Note: A Fused Spur will be required (not supplied)
Timer
The Timer is a 230VAC powered unit and should be wired in parallel with the supply when using the input terminal of the power supply or alternatively wired so that the Timer interrupts the power to the supply. The unit is DIN-rail mounted (DIN rail supplied) designed to be mounted internally to the boxed supply. It offers 30 memory locations and has its own internal battery backup to retain programming for extended periods of mains loss.
Cage
The Mosquito cage is manufactured from LASER cut folded stainless steel and will withstand significant abuse. Ideal for protecting the Mosquito when mounted in a location where people could get to it.
Mounting and Aiming
The mosquito is incredibly sturdy, manufactured from a cast Zinc alloy, however, it is worth installing it somewhere out of reach, if possible, as this can prevent people from attempting to pull it down. We recommend a height of at least four meters. Mounting at this height or above will also help the sound travel over objects while remaining out of reach.
When the Mosquito alarm emits sound, it travels in a cone shape that gets wider as it goes on, spreading at an angle of 60 degrees, so it’s worth bearing this in mind when you’re selecting the ideal spot to install it.
If installing Mosquito in a stairwell, we recommend allowing one Mosquito per 3 levels (assuming levels are open throughout). Mount Mosquito at ceiling level pointing generally down through the centre.
