An electronic device known as the Mosquito is being used by police to help disperse groups of anti-social youths in the Tandridge area of Surrey.

The small box emits an ultra high-pitched sound which is said to be only audible to young people.

The Mosquito can be used over a range of 20m. The piercing sound is ‘so irritating and intolerable that young people… move away within minutes’. Tandridge covers towns like Lingfield, Oxted, Godstone and Caterham.
